How to vote

Make your voice heard in the referendum on Thursday, March 14.

Election Day is Thursday, March 14.

Absentee voting will begin on Saturday, February 3.

There are three ways to vote on the bond referendum:

  • Step 1: Request an absentee ballot application

    • Residents may request an absentee ballot application beginning Saturday, February 3. Requested absentee ballot applications will be mailed out beginning Monday, February 5.

    • Download an absentee ballot application. You may also request an absentee ballot application by contacting Shannon Jepson at shannon.jepson@k12.nd.us or 701-742-3234.

    Step 2: Complete and return your application in one of the following ways:

    • Mail a hard copy of your application to: 804 Main Avenue, Oakes, ND 58474.

    • Return a hard copy of your application to the district office Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

    • Fax your application to: 701-742-2812.

    • Email your application to: shannon.jepson@k12.nd.us.

    Step 3: Once your application has been completed and returned, you will be issued an absentee ballot. 

    • You can request that the absentee ballot be mailed to you, OR you can pick it up from the district office Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

    • If you pick up your absentee ballot in person, you can:

      • fill it out at the same time as when you pick it up,

      • take it with you and return your completed ballot at your convenience to the district office by mail (804 Main Avenue, Oakes, ND, 58474), or 

      • return the ballot in person to the district office Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  

    • Note: All completed absentee ballots must be postmarked by the Post Office by March 13 to be counted.

  • Alternatively, district residents can vote by absentee ballot in person at the district office (804 Main Avenue, Oakes, ND 58474), Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

    • Residents may complete their application in person at the district office Monday, February 5 - Wednesday, March 13, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

    • Residents may also take their application and return it to the district office in person at their convenience by:

    Step 3: Once your application has been completed and submitted, you will be issued an absentee ballot.

    • You can complete your absentee ballot in person at the same time you complete your application. Once completed, you will seal your marked ballot in an envelope and return it to Shannon Jepson to be processed on Election Day by election judges.

    • Note: All completed absentee ballots must be postmarked by the Post Office by Wednesday, March 13 (one day before Election Day) to be counted.

  • Residents can vote at the Oakes Public School district office central conference room on Thursday, March 14, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Don’t forget you will need to bring acceptable identification with you to vote.

    Note: North Dakota does not require voter registration. Any eligible voter may vote in an election if the voter provides acceptable identification.
